How to Avoid Automotive Repair Scams

September 8, 2008 by

Everyone goes through a time in their life when they think that their car is just falling apart right in front of their face. But the truth of the matter is that cars aren’t made to last forever, at least not these days. Used to when you bought a car you where buying a car that was actually made out of something, now cars are made out of plastic so they are built to fail, in my opinion

What hurts the most is the fact that the price to repair your car is now about the same amount that you paid for the car, so if you have to take your car to a shop or dealership make sure that you are getting what you paid for. Many people these days take their car to get fixed, trusting that the person they are taking it too will fix it right, and in the end find that they have been scammed.

Believe it or not, there is a person out there that would love to steal your money and rip you off that is why I am going to give you a few helpful hints to make sure that you are not the next one to get scammed. You can also get on the internet and look on our automotive forum and automotive news sites to find other ways to make sure that you are not scammed.

The first piece of advice that I would like to give you is to make sure that the person or dealership that you take your car to is licensed to work on your car. There are many people today that say that they are qualified to work on your car, but the truth of the matter is that they are not, a matter of fact some don’t know the least little things about working on cars.

I would recommend that if you have a newer model car that you take it to the dealership that you got it from, that way you know that the work is done right and that you are paying for them to fix what is wrong with it instead of making more and more problems up so that you will have to pay a lot of money that doesn’t have to be spent out. Plus most of the time when a dealership works on your car it is covered under warranty, whereas if you take it to a second hand man you will find that it is not covered under warranty.

Also, before you get your car worked on remember to get the address, phone number and the name of the person that is going to be responsible for working on your car. If you get all this information along with keeping your receipt for the work done, you will find that if there is a problem with the work done on your automobile, you can get more action from the place you took your car to, to get fixed. Whereas if you don’t keep your receipt for the work done and you done have all the information about the company, then you will be questioned a lot about what you are asking of them.
